why people insist on being so terrible to one another. more specifically, why people have trouble with the concept of "if this was done to me I would not like it, so I will not do it to others." like why is it only when it affects them that people suddenly give a shit??
the example that comes to mind is politicians who are staunchly anti-lgbt then their kid comes out and suddenly they're pro-lgbt rights...like....why did it have to affect you personally for you to realize that maybe empathy is good. fuck people like that fr.
